Golf has been played at Dooks Golf Club since 1889, making
it one of Irelands oldest links. The golf links is set out
on one of three stretches of sand dunes at the head of Dingle
Bay. In the immediate foreground are the sand dune peninsulas
of Inch and Rossbeigh and just a few miles away are the whitewashed
houses of picturesque Cromane fishing village. The McGillycuddy
Reeks (Highest mountains in Ireland) are to the southeast
and to the north are Slieve Mish and Dingle mountains.
All combine to create a beautiful and tranquil environment
in which to enjoy golf. The layout is very natural in that
greens lay where they fell. Peter Dobereiner described Dooks
very well when he said, " it was a dreamlike experience, playing
over the rolling hills and guessing often wrongly, which hollow
would harbour a green".
