Golf on Fota Island dates from 1883 when a nine hole course

in 1993 and underwent major re development in 1998 with all
the greens being rebuilt and eight holes redesigned. In its
short history, Fota Island Golf Club has hosted the Irish
Club Professional Championship, the Irish PGA Championship
and the Irish Amateur Open. It will be the 2001 and 2002 venue
for the Irish Open.
Fota has received very favourable reviews, in Golf Montly,
"It's a mark of imaginative design when a new course appears
old before the paint has dried…" and Golf Digest, " Depending
on how you see your shot in your mind, you could be playing
any of three different clubs. In other words, it makes you
think. It's real golf".
